Distinguished alumni
Keeping the Legacy alive for many years was the Phenix Plus 50 group who were composed of classmates who graduated at least 50 years ago. In 2007 the organization was reorganized as the George P. Phenix High School Alumni Association and membership included any student who attended a Phenix School.
To bring all classes together for an annual event, the Phenix High School Legacy Reception and Dinner was organized. A highlight of the dinner is recognizing the Distinguished Alumni.
One of the Phenix alumni who received international fame in 2017 is Mary Winston Jackson. She is one of the three women featured in the book Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly and the film of the same title.
Purpose and Philosophy
The George P. Phenix Alumni Association has created the Outstanding Alumni Award. The purpose of the annual Outstanding Alumni Award is to recognize outstanding alumni for their individual achievements, contributions to their industries or professions, and service to their community. From 1932 to 1968 over 3,600 students graduated from the George P. Phenix Training School and later from George P. Phenix High School. From those students many have gone on to reach social and professional milestones in their communities and their chosen career. We believe that the educational experience and the dedication of teachers and administrators at George P. Phenix laid the foundation for their success.
The George P. Phenix High School Outstanding Alumni Award is intended to recognize those selected students who have excelled beyond expectations to achieve either local, state, national, or international recognition. The award shall be given to someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to work towards the betterment of their community or on a state or national level. The award shall be based on their lifelong contributions.
The Outstanding Alumni Award is the highest honor given by the Alumni Association to a graduate. The award is to be presented at the annual Legacy Reception.
